Department Message
The English Language Department aims to develop SKLites who are confident and competent communicators in internationally acceptable English, who are engaged, thoughtful and purposeful users of the language. Through a balanced and progressive approach, SKLites are provided with meaningful opportunities to think critically, express themselves clearly and connect with others.
Anchored in the English Language Syllabus 2020 and the STELLAR 2.0 programme, our curriculum emphasises the development of strong language foundations alongside the ability to make meaning across different contexts and modes. Students engage with a range of texts and learning experiences that build their skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing, grammar and vocabulary, while fostering creativity, interaction and a love for the language.
To complement this, our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Enhanced Spoken English, guided by the SPEAK framework (Speak, Perform, Engage, Acknowledge and Know), provides authentic platforms such as storytelling, drama and public speaking. These experiences enable SKLites to develop confidence in their voice, deepen their thinking, and communicate effectively with purpose and audience awareness.
Through these programmes, SKLites grow to become empathetic communicators, discerning readers and critical thinkers, equipped with the skills and dispositions to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
